What is a leader?

and governs, guides or inspires them.  A boss can have power and authority but not be a leader.

Some say that leaders only take people where they are willing to go, but others believe they take them beyond.  There are different explanations:

Personality: attractiveness, or charisma, which makes others want to follow them.

Situational:
some people are suited to lead in a situation which suits them, but not in others.

Power:
 Some people want power and will do anything to get it.  Some people follow whoever has the power.

Morality:
leaders may offer a moral vision or lead by virtue of religious authority.

Great (Wo)Man theory:
great leaders have a great life force and mission which others follow for better or worse.
